I am a Zamboangueña artist who uses craft paper, thread, and gold leaf to create collages that draw inspiration from the yakan textiles of the Yakan Tribe of Zamboanga City. Tearing apart and sewing together, I engage my sentiments on brokenness in the japanese tradition of wabi sabi.
Wabi-sabi is a Japanese aesthetic described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete". I embrace this concept that was derived from the Buddhist teaching of impermanence, suffering, and emptiness or absence of self-nature.
I graduated as Cum Laude from the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Fine Arts where I majored in painting (Studio Arts). I also hold a diploma in commercial cooking and culinary arts from First Gourmet Academy.
At present, I continue my passion for art and expression alongside managing our family restaurant in my hometown.
